Robert (Bob) McAdam; Dog Trainer

Robert (Bob) McAdam, who trained dogs for television and security work, has died at a Lancaster hospital. He was 66.

McAdam, a longtime resident of Palmdale, died Wednesday of lung cancer, said his wife, Ruth McAdam.

Born in El Sereno, McAdam graduated from Wilson High School, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and joined the Los Angeles Police Department and later the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

He worked as a foreman for the General Motors Delco Division in Anaheim for about 10 years and in 1972 started a security and obedience dog training business in Palmdale called Dog Walk Training & Security.

His bull terrier Cricket was used in television’s “Baa Baa Black Sheep,” which was broadcast from 1976 to 1978. His German shepherd Katie was used in the 1978 TV movie: “Devil Dog: The Hound of Hell.”

McAdam, who once wrestled an alligator on the 1950s television show, “You Asked for It,” was inducted in 1978 into the Stuntman’s Hall of Fame, then located in Palmdale.

In addition to his wife of 28 years, McAdam is survived by his sons, Lon McAdam of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Jon McAdam of Anaheim; daughters Lou Bradley of Fullerton and Lin McAdam of Arizona; 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at Halley-Olsen Funeral Chapel, 3150 E. Palmdale Blvd. in Palmdale, which is handling the arrangements.
