Three suspected gang members have been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a 12-year-old boy in a mall, police said Thursday.

The suspects were arrested without incident Wednesday evening in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 200 block of North Cypress Street, said Lt. Robert Gustafson.

At least eight teen-agers were involved in the fight which led to the stabbing. It occurred in the jewelry department of the Sears department store inside the Mall of Orange.

Both police and Sears officials said there had not been any previous problems with gang activity inside the store or mall.

The three suspects, all teen-age males, are being held at Juvenile Hall in Orange without bail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

The knife believed to have been used in the stabbing has been recovered by police.

The victim, whose name was not released, was stabbed twice in the right shoulder and suffered a punctured lung.

He remains in stable condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, Gustafson said.
