Road crews plan to close the two left lanes of southbound Interstate 5 this morning, and Grape Street in Old Town will be closed for two weekends starting next Friday, officials said.

The left lanes of Interstate 5 will be closed from 6 a.m. until noon at the Park Avenue over-crossing so crews can repair a bridge, said Cathy Gaunt, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation.

Drivers will have to detour around Grape Street in Old Town from Friday, Aug. 28, to Monday, Aug. 31, and again on Friday, Sept. 11, to Monday, Sept. 14. All three lanes of Grape Street will be closed between Kettner Boulevard and Pacific Highway, said Judy Leitner of the Metropolitan Transit Development Board.

The street will be closed so that crews can install new storm drain equipment and upgrade the sewer and water line connections, Leitner said.

Grape Street will remain open during the Labor Day weekend, she said.
