COMPILED BY THE SOCIAL CLIMES STAFF

There are some things that strike Social Climes as being transcendently L.A. One of these is at the Miracle Mile Post Office near Wilshire and La Brea.

In the locked glass case that once displayed posters of kidnapers and mail fraud artists are five-dozen 8-by-10 glossies of struggling actors. One postal worker said there is an increasing number of photos because actors “see the pictures that are up there, and they always want to bring (theirs) in.”

Though one rarely sees an autographed wanted poster, actors invariably sign theirs. Some begin with the standard “All the best,” and rise to “This post office is the only place to pick up”--a line even the most nefarious mail frauder would steer clear of.

Voice in the Crowd

Coping with crowds is surely a necessary evil in Los Angeles. But Hollywood Bowl-goers have devised a creative solution to the inevitable problem.

The human herds filing out on foot are doing more than “moo-ing” together--they’re now singing TV theme songs from “The Brady Bunch,” “The Partridge Family” and “Gunsmoke,” to name a few.

The impromptu chorus doesn’t exactly win applause, but it does separate the couch potatoes from the cultural elite.

Caught in the Net

A man was ordering breakfast from the bar at Campanile the other morning and noticed the tres hip staff behind the counter wearing stylish berets. Looking over the array of different patterns, he said: “Those must be the ‘90s version of hair nets.”
