Share

Two Escondido residents were killed Saturday night when their car went out of control on Valley Center Road and collided with an oncoming van, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The victims were identified by the San Diego County medical examiner’s office as Mary Henson, 24, the driver, and her passenger, Robert L. Umstead, 22.

The CHP said the 6:45 p.m. crash occurred after Henson’s vehicle went off onto the right shoulder of the roadway for unknown reasons. Henson over-corrected, losing control of the vehicle as it slid sideways across the road before crashing into an oncoming van driven by 18-year-old Bernadette Meskimen of Valley Center.
