LOS ANGELES : Panel to Consider Monorail Report

Share

The Los Angeles County Transportation Commission will meet today to decide whether to approve an environmental study on the effects of building a monorail line over the Ventura Freeway.

The meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the board hearing room in the Hall of Administration, 500 Temple St., Los Angeles.

The proposed $2.6-billion project would be built on 20-foot columns along the median of the freeway from Universal City to the Warner Center in Woodland Hills. The commission has already approved an environmental study for a rival option: a $3-billion rail line that would run mostly below ground from North Hollywood to Woodland Hills. This option is called the Burbank-Chandler line because it would run parallel to Burbank and Chandler boulevards.

The environmental study of the monorail option concludes that the project can be built but would have several adverse effects.
