VAN NUYS : Resource Center to Assist Parents
- Share via
A new resource center that will offer area residents help in parenting and life-management skills is scheduled to open Saturday at Hazeltine Avenue School in Van Nuys. The center will be located on campus in a donated portable building, Hazeltine Principal Patricia Abney said.
Plans for the center call for free English classes, parenting seminars and assistance for residents--especially parents--in filling out job applications and immigration papers, Abney said. The center will be open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., although evening events are expected.
Nearly a dozen such centers have already been installed on San Fernando Valley campuses in the past year and a half, Los Angeles Unified School District officials said.
