Countywide : Ex-Perot Partisans Launch New Group

Still confident they can effect change in American government, former Ventura County supporters of Ross Perot announced Thursday the formation of a new political group--United We Stand, America--a moniker borrowed from their leader’s new book.

“We never really dissolved; we’ve been undergoing reorganization,” spokeswoman Karrol Maughmer said. “The mission we are undertaking is far bigger than Ross Perot, than any one individual.” A $4.95 paperback released last week, “United We Stand: How We Can Take Back Our Country” contains Perot’s formula for rebuilding the American economy.

Based loosely on Perot’s ideas as expressed in his book, new chapters of United We Stand, America, are rising from the ashes of former Perot offices across the nation, Maughmer said.

The Ventura County offices at 475 Channel Islands Blvd., Port Hueneme, are staffed by full-time volunteers, she said. The Perot campaign office on Main Street in Ventura has closed.

The new group has 150 members and will focus on educating and registering new voters, Maughmer said.

The Ventura County chapter of United We Stand, America, will hold a meeting to discuss organization and Perot’s book tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Port Hueneme office, Maughmer said.

High on the agenda will be preparations for a statewide meeting of former Perot activists Sept. 11-13 in San Jose, she added.
