A man was kidnaped at gunpoint Wednesday night and shot, yet he managed to escape, and police Thursday were looking for his assailants.

The victim, whose name was not released, was sitting in his car, parked at 16040 Harbor Blvd., awaiting a call from a telephone booth at 11 p.m. Wednesday, when two young men approached, police said. One pointed a gun at the man and forced him into the back seat of the car while the second man drove, a Fountain Valley police dispatcher said.

At the corner of Susan Street and McFadden Avenue in Santa Ana, the gunman suddenly shot the victim, police said. The wounded man managed to get out the car and run to a nearby house for help. The two men drove away in his car.
