GOP and Democrats Trade Charges
Susan Estrich is no nearer the center than Pat Buchanan (“Practicing Politics of Exclusion,” Opinion, Aug. 23). She trashes religion. He trashes gays and lesbians. The Republican Party should no more keep him silent than the Democratic Party should silence her.
I enjoyed the crowd’s reaction to Bush’s speech. The Democrats had trashed him all year and he was finally fighting back. “Hit ‘em again, hit ‘em again--harder, harder” was appropriate under the circumstances.
