Generous Celebration of Prosperity

The congregation at Christ Church Unity in Anaheim is donating used clothing, furniture and books to the public on Sunday during its first “Circulation Day Sunday.”

The Rev. Mario de Ferrari said: “We are inviting the community to celebrate our prosperity. In this way, we make room in our lives for new good.”

Vendors are not invited. Any remaining articles will be donated to Goodwill Industries. The event is from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at 1648 W. Broadway. Information: (714) 774-7660.

Joining the Jewish Community Center at the site of the Jewish Federation Campus in Costa Mesa will be the Jewish Senior Center and Tarbut V’torah Day School. They will both open their doors at the beginning of September.

The Senior Center will offer social, health and other educational programs as well as provide daily meals. Tarbut V’torah combines academics with a Jewish perspective and is intended “to perpetuate the existence of the Jewish people and to build future leaders for our Jewish community,” according to Benefactor Irving Gelman.

Owned and operated by the Jewish Federation of Orange County, the Jewish Federation Campus is becoming a center for Jewish life in Orange County. The Jewish Federation of Orange County is the nonprofit, fund-raising and unifying body for almost 50 local affiliated organizations and 12 beneficiary agencies. The campus is at 250 E. A farewell gathering for Associate Pastor Bryan Smith will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Ana. Smith is leaving to serve as pastor at Geneva Presbyterian Church in Canton, Mich. He has served First Presbyterian since his graduation from Princeton four years ago.

The Center for Spiritual Development in Orange is offering a workshop titled “Spiritual Direction: What Is It?” on Sept. 14 from 7 to 9:15 p.m.

Pastor Bruce Sonnenberg of the Village Church of Irvine will lead a special program Wednesday called “The Church’s Response to the Challenge of AIDS and HIV.” One of the congregation members will give a testimonial.

“Jubilee ‘92” is the three-day seventh annual Southwest Conference on Messianic Judaism, which begins Friday at the Hyatt Regency Irvine. The conference is sponsored by the Adat HaMashiach Messianic Congregation of Irvine.

A special program about the plight of the people of El Salvador will be presented Sunday at the Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church in Costa Mesa. Curtis Walker will discuss how help is being given to El Salvador’s people that were disabled from war injuries. The program is at 10:30 a.m.

Next Sunday, the guest speaker will be the Rev. Harold Wilson, founding member of the Black Unitarian Universalist Caucus. His topic during the 10:30 service will be “An American Dilemma Revisited: Gunner Myrdal, 1962 and the Kerner Commission, 1968 and 1992.”

The National Evangelistic Census planned for Sept. 20 is an effort first organized by Evangelists Charles and Frances Hunter of Houston. Church workers will go door-to-door preaching the Gospel in a nationwide evangelical campaign.

Some organizations involved in the census are: Campus Crusade for Christ, Youth With a Mission, the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship International, Women’s Aglow and North American Renewal Services Committee.
