UCLA quarterback Wayne Cook completed 12 of 22 passes for 192 yards and one touchdown during a 110-play scrimmage Saturday night at the Rose Bowl.

Cook, who is replacing Tommy Maddox as the Bruins’ starter, combined on a 50-yard touchdown pass play with wide receiver Sean LaChapelle, who had four receptions for 107 yards.

Cook and wide receiver J.J. Stokes also teamed on a 43-yard pass play.

“I thought Wayne threw the ball well,” UCLA Coach Terry Donahue said. “It was good experience for him to play here before some fans and under the lights.”

Freshman running back Sharmon Shah rushed for 48 yards in 10 carries, including a 20-yard touchdown run.

Although there were no major injuries, nose guard Bruce Walker, who started 10 games last season, aggravated a hamstring injury.

The Bruins open their season on Sept. 12 against Cal State Fullerton at the Rose Bowl.
