ORANGE : Welder’s Torch Sets Off Small Fire
A welder’s torch ignited a small fire in a nine-story building under reconstruction at 600 S. Main St. on Tuesday, said an Orange Fire Department official.
Part of a room covered with drywall caught fire when one of the workers using a welding torch accidentally brushed against the flammable material.
The Orange Fire Department evacuated 15 workers in the building, and with help from the Garden Grove and Santa Ana Fire departments managed to extinguish the fire within 10 minutes, said Battalion Chief Ray Montoya.
There were no injuries and damage was estimated to be $2,000.
