SIMI VALLEY : Cable Firm Offers to Hook Up Schools

Share

A Simi Valley cable TV company will provide free installation and service to all of the city’s public schools this year, allowing teachers to use commercial-free programs in their classrooms this fall.

Comcast Cablevision is hooking up the cable TV for free to heighten the company’s profile in the city, where it has operated since 1986, said Comcast General Manager Greg Mackney.

Although the cable installation will allow teachers to tune in to 37 channels, the district plans to use only commercial-free programs, including some that are specifically designed for classroom use.

CNN, the Discovery Channel and Arts & Entertainment all run commercial-free programs during school hours for educational use, Mackney said.

Comcast workers are hooking up cable to all classrooms that already have the needed wiring, Hockney said. In some schools, cable TV will be available only in a media room shared by all classes.
