PORT HUENEME : Man Held on Charge of Firing at Officers
Three Port Hueneme police officers escaped injury Thursday when a man with a gun turned and fired on them as they chased him through an alley.
Police arrested Roger Fernandez Aguillon, 39, of Imperial Beach shortly after the 12:49 a.m. incident on suspicion of assaulting a peace officer with a deadly weapon, authorities said.
The confrontation began when police were called to an apartment complex in the 600 block of Evergreen Lane to investigate a report of a man with a gun. When Officers Kenneth Dobbe, James Evans and Martin Garcia arrived, they found Aguillon crouching behind bushes, officials said.
They chased Aguillon into a nearby alley, where he suddenly whirled around and allegedly tried to shoot them with a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol, police said. The officers returned the fire as Aguillon jumped behind a vehicle and then dropped his weapon, police said.
Investigators said Aguillon had threatened a former girlfriend who lives in the apartment complex. Aguillon was waiting for the woman’s husband to come home when officers arrived, police said.
