Is Charles Finley Back in Oakland?
Congratulations to the Oakland A’s for again making a move that will help the organization in the short and long run. Many fans believe that the trading of an all-star such as Canseco for a couple of pitchers and an outfielder will be paid for in seasons to come.
In fact, the ailing A’s pitching staff picks up two respectable pitchers, a starter (Bobby Witt) and a reliever (Jeff Russell), and an outfielder (Ruben Sierra) to fill Canseco’s spot. Sierra was having what was considered an off-year, but his numbers compare with Canseco’s this season; and two pitchers were thrown into the deal, plus cash, for good measure.
And what did the A’s lose? A head case of the highest order.
