COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Beats Eastern Washington in Women’s Volleyball Opener

The UC Irvine women’s volleyball team defeated Eastern Washington in three games to win its opener in the Anteater Invitational Monday at UC Irvine.

Anastasia Arnold had a match-high nine kills for the Anteaters (1-0), who won, 15-5, 15-9, 15-13. Popi Edwards had seven kills, Kris Puttler had six kills and Wendy Kohler and Scotleen Risley each had five for Irvine. Kohler had a match-high 14 digs and setter Kathy Ham had 12 digs and 30 assists.

Kellie Glaus had eight kills and Andrea Pochman, Angela Grant and Kendra Danielson each had five for Eastern Washington (0-1).

The round-robin tournament continues today at Crawford Hall, with each team playing two more matches. Eastern Washington plays San Diego at 10 a.m. The Anteaters play Cal State Fullerton at noon. In the evening session, Fullerton and Eastern Washington play at 5 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. by Irvine and San Diego.

San Diego 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Amy McMahon had nine kills and Liz Gunsaulus and Jennifer Loftus each had eight as San Diego (2-1) swept to a 15-8, 15-6, 15-6 victory. Lisa Parbst had eight kills for the Titans (0-1).
