Penn State Slips Past Cincinnati
Brian O’Neal ran for his second touchdown of the game with 7:36 remaining and No. 8 Penn State withstood a fourth-quarter scare to defeat Cincinnati, 24-20, Saturday night.
O’Neal’s score gave the Nittany Lions breathing room after a blocked punt helped Cincinnati get to within 17-14 when Paul Anderson passed eight yards to David Small for a touchdown with 13:19 left.
Anderson added a two-yard scoring run with 1:08 left, but misfired on a two-point conversion pass.
Richie Anderson’s 10-yard touchdown run and Craig Fayak’s 44-yard field goal in the third quarter enabled Penn State to break a 7-7 halftime tie.
Last year, the Lions trounced Cincinnati, 81-0.
