Walker Shows the Saints He Has Some Run Left : NFC: He rushes for 114 yards and catches a touchdown pass as Eagles win, 15-13.

Like everyone else, the New Orleans Saints took their best shots at Herschel Walker and the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line. It wasn’t enough.

Walker, who was released by the Minnesota Vikings and signed to a lucrative contract by the Eagles, rushed for 114 yards in 26 carries and caught a touchdown pass Sunday in Philadelphia’s 15-13 victory over the Saints.

“I don’t think I look any different,” Walker said. “I just did my thing. It’s very satisfying to play with this team. We have a lot of weapons. I knew that I could run and I knew that I was strong.”

Walker became the first Eagle to rush for 100 yards since Heath Sherman on Nov. 12, 1990.

But he didn’t take all the credit.

“(The line has) taken a lot of shots and they went out and proved what they can do,” Walker said. “They came off the ball well.”

After missing almost all of last season with a knee injury, Randall Cunningham survived six sacks and three fumbles. He completed 18 of 25 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles took a 6-0 lead on Cunningham’s two-yard scoring pass to Walker, but the Saints got even with Morten Anderson’s field goals of 39 and 31 yards.

Roger Ruzek, whose missed the extra point after Walker’s touchdown, kicked an 18-yard field goal to give Philadelphia a 9-6 lead.

Cunningham connected with Fred Barnett on a 20-yard touchdown pass play in the third quarter following a 34-yard punt return by Vai Sikahema and the Eagles’ lead was 15-6.

New Orleans scored with 3:14 left on Bobby Hebert’s 10-yard pass to Wesley Carroll.

Before the game the Eagles retired the No. 99 jersey of Jerome Brown, the two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle who died in an automobile accident June 25.
