Hollywood Rental Co. to Buy Rival’s Assets

Matthews Studio Equipment Group, a Burbank company that makes, sells and rents camera and lighting equipment to the entertainment industry, said its subsidiary, Hollywood Rental Co. Inc., has tentatively agreed to acquire all of the rental assets of a rival company for an estimated $1.7 million.

Matthews said it proposed to buy generators, lights, cables and other equipment from Star Lighting Enterprises Ltd. for Hollywood Rental’s branch in Charlotte, N. C. Star Lighting has rental offices and warehouses in Wilmington, N. C., and New York, and it is Hollywood Rental’s largest competitor in North Carolina.

Matthews said it expected the transaction to be completed by mid-October.
