Giving Something Back: To celebrate their 40th anniversary as a team, songwriters-record producers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller are establishing the ASCAP Leiber & Stoller Music Scholarships to assist aspiring young composers and musicians in Los Angeles and New York. Two Los Angeles winners, trombonist Carlos A. Perez III and drummer Trevor Ira Lawrence, both June graduates of Hamilton High School, will receive $10,000 scholarships at a reception today at the At My Place jazz club in Santa Monica. The two benefactors, authors of such songs as “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock” and “Yakety Yak,” have a special tie to Los Angeles schools. Leiber was graduated from Fairfax High and Stoller from Belmont.
