Organizers of the 54th annual Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival in Lancaster said Tuesday that the attendance increased slightly this year after two years of decline.
The 11-day event, which ended Monday, drew 302,489 visitors, a 2.5% increase from the previous year’s attendance of 295,224. Paid attendance was 174,086 this year, up about 2.4% over last year’s 170,086.
Fair officials said good weather, increased publicity and upgraded free entertainment contributed to the increase.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Terry Lewis said stepped-up anti-gang patrols helped keep this year’s event calm, with only a few arrests for minor crimes such as public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
