A 20-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy suspected of fatally shooting a woman in Agua Dulce and seriously wounding her mother were arrested in Salt Lake City early Tuesday as they slept in the dead woman’s car, authorities said.
Jason Michael Richardson and the youth were taken into custody at gunpoint by officers who later discovered the car contained a .22-caliber rifle and 400 rounds of ammunition, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Angie McLaughlin said. A box of 50 rounds was discovered in Richardson’s pants pocket, she said.
Richardson, also known as Jason Michael Watson, was being held without bail on suspicion of auto theft at Salt Lake County Jail, McLaughlin said. The 15-year-old was being held without bail on suspicion of auto theft at the Salt Lake County Detention Center, she said.
Attempts are under way to extradite the two to Los Angeles, where the district attorney’s office on Tuesday filed charges against them, Deputy Dist. Atty. Ron L. Smalstig said.
The boy, of Canyon Country, was charged with attempted murder and murder with the use of a firearm in the commission of a robbery, Smalstig said. If convicted, he could face a maximum penalty of 30 years to life in jail, he said.
Richardson was charged with murder, attempted murder and being an accessory after the fact, Smalstig said. He faces 25 years to life if convicted, Smalstig said.
No charges have been filed against the boy’s 15-year-old girlfriend, who was arrested with the two men, Smalstig said.
The girlfriend apparently joined the pair after the shooting Sunday afternoon that killed Mary Louise Glover, 34, and injured her mother, Mary Lou Glover, 63, Smalstig said. The elder Glover was in fair condition Tuesday at a Santa Clarita hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
She had been looking after Richardson while housesitting for his parents at their Hierba Road residence, Smalstig said. Richardson’s parents told Glover that the 15-year-old was not allowed at the house, and she had ordered him to leave one day last week, he said.
Authorities believe the 15-year-old was the one who shot Mary Louise Glover on Sunday as she entered the house while visiting her mother, Smalstig said. Mary Lou Glover then went outside, saw the boy and told him to leave. As she turned to go back into the house, she too was shot, Smalstig said.
The boy “then entered the house and shot the daughter again and took her car keys,” Smalstig said. Richardson then drove Mary Louise Glover’s car from the murder scene, Smalstig said.
The two women, both of Sylmar, apparently were discovered by Richardson’s parents when they returned home from vacation Sunday evening, McLaughlin said.
The ensuing search for Richardson and the youth ended Tuesday about 12:10 a.m. when a Salt Lake City police officer spotted the car in the dirt lot of a park that closes at 11 p.m., Salt Lake City Police Lt. Jim Jensen said.
The officer walked up to the car, where Richardson was sleeping in the front seat and the youth and his girlfriend were sleeping in the back, authorities said. The officer checked the license plate and discovered the car was reported stolen, McLaughlin said.
