WESTMINSTER — Police swarmed into an area of apartments across from Westminster High School on Tuesday after one officer’s patrol car was struck by a bullet, authorities said.
Police Lt. Mike Schliskey said the unidentified officer heard a gunshot, then the sound of something hitting the police car at about 5 p.m. as he patrolled an apartment complex near Main and Golden West streets.
“He got out, sought cover and called for help,” Schliskey said.
The gunfire appeared to have come from the parking lot of a nearby church or an adjacent apartment complex, but patrol officers and the Sheriff’s Department helicopter scoured the area in search of a possible suspect without success.
The officer was not injured. But the impact of what appeared to be a bullet fired from a handgun did minor damage to the rear passenger side door of the patrol car.
