Jim Jirsa of Baldwin Park will celebrate...

Jim Jirsa of Baldwin Park will celebrate his 102nd birthday today. A reception will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Baldwin Park Senior Citizen Center, 14305 Morgan St.

Jirsa is the last remaining member of the Baldwin Park post for World War I veterans. In 1977 he organized the Committee on Aging to promote development of the Senior Citizens Center and served as its treasurer. He is also a life member of the American Legion.

Terrence Bellanger, Diamond Bar’s acting city manager since May, has been elevated to the position on a permanent basis. Bellanger, formerly assistant city manager, has filled in since former City Manager Robert Van Nort took a city management position with Chino Hills. The city’s personnel committee will negotiate with Bellanger over terms of the job and present the results at the Sept. 18 City Council meeting.

After completing a term as vice mayor, San Gabriel City Councilman Dominic S. Polimeni was rotated into the position of mayor last week, replacing Mayor Mary Cammarano, who remains on the City Council. Councilman James Castaneda was named vice mayor. The council reassigns the posts of mayor and vice mayor about every 9 1/2 months.
