La Canada Flintridge : Solicitors Must Get Permits

Share

For-profit enterprises and charitable groups must get permits to sell door-to-door under an ordinance adopted unanimously by the City Council.

Previously, only commercial solicitors were required to have permits.

Permits will be free for charities, but they must show the city the purpose of the solicitations are for and the percentage that actually goes to that purpose. They must also provide a financial statement and proof of IRS tax-exempt status.

Commercial solicitors will be required to pay $100 annually.

The law orders solicitors not to bother residents or businesses that post “do not disturb” signs. Those ignoring the warnings can be fined up to $500 per day or sentenced to up to six months in jail, City Manager Gabrielle Pryor said.
