Wetlands Foxes Are Trapped

Share

“More than eight” healthy red foxes have been successfully trapped in the Ballona Wetlands by a private company hired by the developer of the Playa Vista project.

As a result, said Nelson Rising, senior partner for developer Maguire Thomas Partners, eight of the foxes will be readied for travel to a new home at a behavioral research program at Humboldt State University’s Department of Wildlife Management.

Rising would not disclose the exact number of trapped foxes because he said he did not want to arm animal-rights activists with information about foxes that may not find homes. Those foxes would “regrettably have to be euthanized in the most humane way,” he said.

Rising said that people have continued to trespass on the wetlands at night and that some of the padded leg-hold traps have been sprung.
