Paper Diaper-Using Welfare Mothers Get No Sympathy Here

Share

While reading about the AFDC mothers spending as much as $85 a month for formula, I wondered if it ever occurred to these moms to take advantage of the fact they are not working and breast-feed their babies? Nursing a baby costs nothing, and the benefits for both mother and child (including financial and medical) are tremendous.

As for the mother mourning the fact that the welfare cuts mean she can no longer afford baby photos: I have two young children and sympathize with her feelings, and yet, when my husband and I scrape together to make ends meet, I have to wonder: Why are my tax dollars paying for this woman’s baby photos? That’s money I could use in my own pocket. That may sound insensitive, but these are tough times, and I can’t afford to pay for other people’s “extras.”
