Sentencing Delayed in Export Case: The sentencing of an Iranian national accused of illegally exporting high-tech equipment to Iran through his Newport Beach company has been postponed to Oct. 19.
Reza (Ray) Panjtan Amiri, 43, pleaded guilty in March to five counts, including submitting false customs declarations for equipment that can be used in making nuclear weapons.
Amiri’s Los Angeles attorney, Mark E. Beck, said Monday that Iranian authorities will not let his client leave Tehran, where Amiri is visiting relatives. “Iranian government officials are not being specific as to why he is being detained,” Beck said.
