Wide receiver Sean LaChapelle, who led the Pacific 10 in receptions last season, might lead the league in another category this season--punt returning.
LaChapelle returned four punts for 76 yards during UCLA’s 37-14 season-opening victory over Cal State Fullerton, besides catching seven passes for 154 yards. He finished the game with 230 all-purpose yards, a personal best.
“I wanted to get more involved in helping out UCLA, and I approached Coach (Terry) Donahue and asked him if I could return punts,” LaChapelle said. “I thought if we could get some good returns it would help the offense.”
Brigham Young is ranked sixth in the nation in passing, averaging 341 yards, and eighth in total offense, with an average of 514 yards.
