BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Talks on Hold Between Abbott, Angels

Contract talks between the Angels and left-hander Jim Abbott are on hold until Whitey Herzog, the Angels’ senior vice president for player personnel, discusses several proposals by Abbott and his agent, Scott Boras, with owners Gene and Jackie Autry.

Boras said he met with Herzog about a week ago, “and we clarified our position. Whitey indicated he had to talk to the owners, and that’s where it is.”

Herzog has said he wants to sign Abbott, who will be 25 Saturday, to a multi-year deal, probably four years.
