Bell : City Suspends License of Closed Card Casino
Police Chief Jim Edwards has suspended the business license of the Regency Club card casino, which has been closed since July 31.
The City Council had planned to revoke the card club’s license, but pulled back after city officials decided that such action would make it more difficult to line up a new owner. “Now is (not) the time to do that,” City Administrator John Bramble said.
Federal bankruptcy trustee Steven E. Smith said he is negotiating with two groups interested in buying the casino, adding that the club could be operating again by the end of the year.
The city stands to lose about $80,000 in revenues each month the casino is closed.
