Wrong Way for Freeway

Share

As residents and property owners of 26 years in the same Canyon Country house, we are vehemently opposed to the proposed freeway for the Santa Clarita Valley, particularly the northern route.

The current plans would adversely affect our community’s fragile wildlife in the Santa Clara River, increase noise and air pollution and decrease property values for most property owners of the valley--except Newhall Land & Farming.

The plan’s damage far outweighs the benefits. And property owners on the eastern side of the Valley will bear the brunt of a scheme to make the trip quick and easy to a development company’s greedy vision--the Valencia Town Center.

A more cost-effective solution would be to build the freeway toward the areas where industrial development and future homes are planned, from Highway 14 aligned with Vasquez Canyon Road to Highway 126, near the Interstate 5 connection. This route would cover undeveloped land, travel near the current industrial park and connect to an area that is being planned for several large developments. It would also be more convenient for those traveling from the Antelope Valley, be more cost effective and keep our community from becoming just another concrete jungle.
