GORMAN : Panel Orders Study on Shopping Center

Share

The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to direct its staff to prepare a final environmental impact report on a proposed 85-store factory outlet center near Gorman.

At the same time, the commissioners said they want to consider a slightly modified version of the proposal by McArthur/Glen Group, a Washington-based development firm that hopes to build the shopping center on 50 acres northeast of the junction of the Golden State Freeway and California 138.

The commissioners said they will consider three restaurants at the site, instead of five proposed by the developer. They also rejected the developer’s request for a conditional-use permit that would have allowed the sale of beer and wine at two gas stations proposed for the site.

In addition, they said all construction must be architecturally consistent.

The retail strip center, which also would include an 80-room hotel, would be built by the Sammis Co. of Westlake Village. The final environmental impact report will be considered by the commission before it votes on whether to send the proposal to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The commission is expected to consider the report in about two weeks.
