CANOGA PARK : Hazardous Waste Roundup Saturday

Share

A household hazardous waste roundup will be held Saturday in Canoga Park to collect unwanted paint, motor oil, pesticides and other household chemicals, city sanitation officials have announced.

The roundup will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rockwell International’s Rocketdyne plant at Victory Boulevard and Canoga Avenue, said Jackie David, information officer for the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation.

Dumping unwanted chemicals down the drain or in the garbage is environmentally harmful and against the law, David said. She asked that participants bring wastes in the original containers and transport them in a cardboard box, taking care to keep them away from passengers during transportation. The city has held 26 previous hazardous waste roundups, serving 40,092 cars and collecting more than 56,000 gallons of latex paint, 107,322 gallons of motor oil and 4,454 car batteries. In addition, 10,238 55-gallon drums of other hazardous waste have been collected and safely discarded.

David said these events have proven particularly popular in the Valley, where the last roundup drew nearly 3,000 cars.
