When Worlds of Journalism, Art and Politics Collide

Share

At age 84, this is my very first letter to the editor. However, I must convey my total and complete disgust with the views of two presumed eminent directors of two major Orange County arts organizations.

In today’s Times (“2 O.C. Arts Directors Back Clinton,” Aug. 19), on Page 1 of the Calendar section, it is stated that two major directors of Orange County arts organizations have endorsed Bill Clinton for President.

I have always voted Republican, but quite truthfully, I have not yet decided to vote for Bush. But to read that two prominent individuals, presumably intelligent, have decided to vote for Clinton because he is a stronger supporter of the arts has to make any reader absolutely disgusted.

What in the name of U.S.A. has a vote for an individual based on the presumption that he’s a stronger supporter of the arts have to do with the future of the United States, the deficit, tax problems, environmental problems, etc.?

They should be fired from their organizations for being so narrow-minded.
