Mark Olford ran four yards for a touchdown, then leaped across the goal line for the two-point conversion with 1:47 to play Saturday to give Oregon State a 14-14 Pacific 10 tie with Arizona.

Steve McLaughlin missed a 44-yard field-goal attempt with 21 seconds to play that would have given the victory to Arizona, 1-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the Pac-10.

Oregon State (1-1-1, 0-0-1) drove 73 yards in 13 plays to tie the score after trailing throughout.

Olford, the Beavers’ 5-foot-8 quarterback, ran 22 yards on fourth and two at Oregon State’s 45-yard line to set up the score. The Beavers had punted the ball but decided to go for the first down when Arizona was called for offsides on the play.

Olford also ran two yards for a first down on fourth and one at the Wildcats’ 13.

Rather than accept the tie, Oregon State tried an onside kick, but Arizona’s Kevin Gosar recovered at the Beavers’ 42.

George Malauulu, who ran for two first-half touchdowns, completed a 13-yard pass to Terry Vaughn to move the ball to the Oregon State 29. Three running plays advanced it to the 26, but McLaughlin’s field-goal try was wide to the left.
