Sixty of America’s best chefs (including our own Patrick Clark of Bice, Nobu Matsuhisa of Matsuhisa, Mark Peel of Campanile, Hans Rockenwagner of Rockenwagner and John Sedlar of Bikini) have flown to Florida to cook a benefit dinner tomorrow night to raise money for victims of Hurricane Andrew. Tickets for the dinner, sponsored by the chefs’ organization, Share Our Strength, are $65; 100% of the proceeds go directly to the relief effort. The chefs were actually faster than the federal government. According to Bill Shore, executive director of SOS, 48 hours after the hurricane touched down, the SOS network had already mobilized to aid victims. If you’re not in the mood to fly all the way to the Turnberry Isle Resort in Aventura, Fla., but would like to support SOS’s Hurricane Relief Fund, you can send donations to Share Our Strength, 1511 K Street NW, Suite 940, Washington, D.C. 20005.
