Carter and Short

In last Sunday’s article on comedians by Lawrence Christon (“Saturday-Night Lives”), my remark “Look at Marty Short--a disaster” could be misinterpreted. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I have always thought that Short is one of the most talented and special actor-comedians of the modern crop. I’ve loved him since “SCTV,” when he did Jackie Rogers, the conglomeration of all Vegas headliners.

I was referring to the plethora of films these new guys--John Candy, Rick Moranis et al.--are thrown into in such rapid succession that are often disasters and injurious to their careers.

In my era, at our height, our zenith, we never got into many pictures. In fact, we had to pay to see them.
