Glendora : 19-Acre Annexation Begins

Share

The City Council agreed Tuesday to begin the process to add 19 acres of unincorporated Los Angeles County territory to Glendora.

The properties run along the western boundary of Barranca Avenue between Leodora and Sierra Madre avenues. About two-thirds of the 19 affected homeowners favor annexation, Deputy City Manager Culver Heaton Jr. said.

Mayor Bob Kuhn said the move is good for the city because the area already receives backup police protection and other services from Glendora. He said state legislation allowing the county to retain property taxes of annexed property is putting the city under pressure to act before the law, which has been signed by the governor, goes into effect. No date for that has been determined.

Heaton said it will be about three months before the matter is heard by the Local Agency Formation Commission, which must approve the transfer of jurisdiction and property taxes. The council will hold a public hearing if the commission agrees to the change.
