Share

San Diego Oceans Foundation and the San Diego Maritime Museum are hosts today of a Coastal Awareness Day for San Diego students.

More than 30 environmental and coastal conservation groups will set up information booths with displays to educate the public about their activities. Resource protection, research and knowledge of ocean laws will be explained by representatives from the groups.

One of the main attractions will be a “live video tour” of the Point Loma kelp beds, said Carl Nettleton, a foundation board member. The image of a diver in the kelp beds will be beamed up to two large screen TVs, and students will be able to communicate directly with the diver as he or she swims through the kelp forest, Nettleton said. The television hook-up will be conducted at 12:15 p.m. and 2 p.m.
