Machado in Quarterfinals of Fall Classic

Share

Rob Machado of Encinitas ran off a string of four waves over eight points in a five-minute period of his Round 3 heat Saturday to advance to today’s quarterfinals of the Body Glove Fall Classic at Seaside Reef in Cardiff.

Machado’s streak came on a day when other surfers struggled to achieve their four-wave minimum in 20 minutes.

On one wave Machado disappeared for several seconds before re-emerging from the tube. It was the only tube ride of the event and demonstrated Machado’s superior skills in the six-to-eight-foot surf.
