A candidate for the state Legislature was released on $100,000 bond Tuesday after being arrested in the shooting of his opponent’s wife.

Eric Kaplan, 28, faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery and firing into an occupied dwelling. He allegedly fired a revolver from the street into the home of state Rep. Robert Starks early Sunday, hitting Starks’ wife in the leg as she sat up in bed. She was not seriously injured.

Kaplan’s name will remain on the Nov. 3 ballot unless a judge intervenes to remove it, according to county elections supervisor Sandra Goard.
