A South Los Angeles gang member convicted of raping two teen-age girls was sentenced Wednesday to 22 years and eight months in prison.

Superior Court Judge James Bascue sentenced Sharodney Carter, 25, to the maximum term. Carter was convicted of rape, kidnaping and unlawful sexual intercourse with a female younger than 18 for the June, 1991, attacks on the girls, ages 16 and 14.

Carter, whose gang name is Mad Dog, drove with the two girls and several of his friends to the beach, where they planned to have a party, Deputy Dist. Atty. Amy Suehiro said.

“He raped the 16-year-old girl at the beach,” she said.

When he returned to his South-Central home, Carter kidnaped the 14-year-old at gunpoint and drove her to a dead-end street, where he kissed and fondled her. He then drove her to another location and raped her, Suehiro said.
