Gil Stein’s 100 days as president-elect of the NHL ended when he officially became the fifth president in league history.

Stein was unanimously elected by the league’s board of governors to succeed John Ziegler in June, about 10 days after Ziegler was forced out. Ziegler’s term officially ended Wednesday.

The board of governors also agreed to revamp the NHL’s management structure and establish a commissioner to run the league. Stein, the league’s counsel and a vice president for 15 years, has said he is interested in the new post.
