From silk to taffeta, a scarf is a “must have” fashion accessory. Not only do theysoften today’s tailored look, scarves also lift any style dress providing a bold dash of color and design. And, while it only takes a few simple steps to create these looks, if your life is already in tied up in knots, each of these featured looks can be quickly achieved with the help of a scarf clip.

Fancy Bow

Use a taffeta-like fabric for this big-bow look.

1. Fold square scarf into triangle and drape over shoulders.

2. Form square knot but instead of pulling end through the top loop again, gently pull folded ends through center loop until knot is held firm.

3.Even ends and tighten.

Scarf Clips

Scarf clips offer a fashionable shortcut to creating many ties and collars. In gold or silver, with or without stones, a clip will add elegance.

To use, open ring at back of clip. Slip the scarf through the loop and snap shut when the clip is in place. In some cases, clips can be used instead of tying knots.

Fichu

This draping over-the-shoulder requires a large square scarf. The effect softens any look.

1. Lay scarf on flat surface. Bring opposite points to center.

2. Fold triangles in half. Place around shoulders.

1. Fold square scarf into a rectangle.

This classic look complements a variety of necklines; a soft fabric works best.

1. Drape material around neck and place right side over then under left side, pulling up and over top toward front.

2. Place left end over right, pulling end up and inton center loop toward front.

3. Gently pull both ends to tighten.

Fan

Use silk to create this pleated look.

1. Place scarf around neck. Leave right side twice as long as left.

2. Tie a loose knot in left end, leaving about three inches hanging free. Pleat right end until it is even with left.

3. Push three inches of pleats through knot and tighten. Fan out pleats and adjust at neckline.

Basic Tie

This cravat style four-in-hand works best with a shirt collar; use a fabric with body or a man’s tie.

1. Drape material around neck; the right side should be slightly longer.

2. Starting at the top, wrap right end over left.

3. Circle right end over left again, forming a front loop.

4. From back to front, pull right end up and over top then down through front loop.
