OXNARD : High School District Cuts 18 Positions

Share

Oxnard Union High School District officials have voted to cut 18 clerical, maintenance and transportation positions.

Only six employees actually will be laid off, because the remaining 12 will be absorbed into current vacant positions, said Frances Perry, assistant personnel director for the district.

The cuts, which were made during a special school board meeting Wednesday, will save the district $270,000 and enable it to balance its $50-million budget, Perry said. The district already cut $1.5 million from the budget.

One of the positions cut was that of director of maintenance and transportation, a $60,000-a-year post. Notices of the layoffs were sent late this week.

Several employees expressed opposition to the cuts at the meeting. Also in opposition was the Oxnard Federation of Teachers, the union that represents teachers as well as other district employees.
