Voter Registration Deadline Nears

If you haven’t registered for the Nov. 3 general election, it is not too late, officials said.

To make voting easier, the registrar of voters has offered this registration information and a call for help.

* The deadline to register is next Monday.

* There are 1,314,459 people currently registered as voters in San Diego County.

* Who can register: U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years old by the time of the election.

* If you have moved, changed your name or party affiliation, you need to register again.

* Voter registration forms can be picked up at the Department of Motor Vehicles, U.S. post offices, libraries, 7-Eleven stores, McDonald’s fast-food restaurants, Rubio’s Restaurants, Mann Theaters, Tower Records and the county registrar’s office.

* Registration forms can also be obtained by calling the San Diego County voter registration request line at 1-800-696-0136. Callers can leave their name and address and forms will be mailed. Further information is available by calling 694-3400 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.

* To receive information about absentee/mail ballot voting, call the 24-hour information line at 694-3414.

* The registrar of voters is looking for precinct officers and polling locations. Volunteers can call 694-3400 during working hours and 694-3462 after hours.

* Volunteers are needed at five locations in the county to help prepare the ballots for counting, to store supplies, to post election results and to distribute result bulletins. The sites are in El Cajon, Carlsbad, Chula Vista, San Diego and Golden Hall downtown. To participate, call 694-3426 by Oct. 20.
