Turnovers, Lack of Offense Plague Century in Loss to St. Bernard

In a game that included numerous turnovers and penalties, Playa del Rey St. Bernard defeated Century, 14-0, Friday night at St. Bernard.

After watching his team turn the ball over seven times while failing to score a touchdown for the second consecutive game, Century Coach Bill Brown was not in a jolly mood after the game.

“If we had an offense, I’m sure we would have won the game tonight,” Brown said. “We better get our act straight for next week.”

The Vikings (2-2) scored their two touchdowns in the second half. The first came in the third period when senior Carlos Meeks ran it in from the six. In the fourth quarter, quarterback Robert Simon connected with tight end Chris Bowman for a 31-yard touchdown pass.

It was a frustrating night for the Centurions (0-3-1), who amassed only 36 yards of total offense in the second half.

Penalties dominated the scoreless first half. Century was penalized three times for 25 yards while St. Bernard had five penalties for 35 yards.
