Even without their two best pass-rushers, the New York Jets had too much defense for the New England Patriots Sunday night.

The Jets won their first game after four consecutive losses, sacking Hugh Millen seven times for 59 yards in a 30-21 victory.

Jeff Lageman and Dennis Byrd were sidelined, but the Jets’ defensive front still dominated. Marvin Washington and Paul Frase each had two sacks.

Millen, who completed 23 of 33 passes for 259 yards, has been sacked 21 times this season. The Patriots (0-4) have scored only 34 points.

Patriot receiver Irving Fryar had eight receptions for 165 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown pass play.

Jet quarterback Browning Nagle completed 20 of 33 passes for 195 yards, including touchdown pass plays of seven yards to Terance Mathis and 19 yards to Rob Moore.

Blair Thomas gained 71 yards in 13 carries for the Jets. Brad Baxter gained 20 yards in 10 carries and scored on a two-yard run in the second quarter.
